NDRRMC Raises Blue Alert for Tropical Depression Crising
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has raised a blue alert for Tropical Depression Crising. This alert calls on concerned agencies to closely monitor the situation and ensure seamless coordination as the weather system approaches.
This blue alert signals preparation for a slow-developing hazard or a possible escalation that demands the readiness of selected personnel. Local authorities and disaster agencies have been urged to stay vigilant and ready to act.
Coordinated Agency Efforts Under Blue Alert
A memorandum issued on Wednesday requires Detailed Duty Officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, and technical staff from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) to report for duty. Their role is to maintain uninterrupted coordination, respond to requests, and address issues relevant to their agencies.
In addition, Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operation Centers must vigilantly monitor, compile, and report all related incidents. They are also tasked with ensuring timely communication with all relevant agencies and offices.
To enhance response efficiency, a virtual Emergency Operations Center will be activated. This setup aims to facilitate swift coordination among various government units and agencies during the storm’s progression.
Current Status of Tropical Depression Crising
According to the latest update from PAGASA at 11 a.m., Tropical Depression Crising was located approximately 725 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. It is moving west-northwestward with maximum sustained winds reaching 45 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 55 kph.
The storm is expected to continue on a northwestward track and will be closest to Northern Luzon by Friday evening. Its slow movement and associated weather conditions may cause prolonged rainfall in affected regions.
Local Government Units Warned to Prepare
The Office of Civil Defense has urged local government units (LGUs) and communities to remain alert. With Crising’s approach coupled with the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat, heavy rains are forecasted in the coming days.
LGUs are advised to activate their response plans, preposition relief supplies, and keep residents informed. Meanwhile, communities, especially those in flood-prone and coastal areas, should prepare emergency kits or go-bags, stay updated through official channels, and follow evacuation orders if necessary.
Local leaders have emphasized the importance of readiness to minimize the impact of potential flooding, landslides, and other hazards linked to the tropical depression.
