Nearly 98 Percent Transmitted Votes Now Available
The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) announced on Tuesday afternoon that it has received almost 98 percent of the transmitted votes after obtaining data from the Commission on Elections. This development marks a significant step toward ensuring transparency in the electoral process.
PPCRV spokesperson Ana Singson shared, “We already have the data, which we could not see earlier, and we received it when we were told we were going to receive it.” She praised the Comelec leadership, saying, “I have to say, (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia, you are a man of your word. You came out this morning in a press conference and said that you would give us the data in the morning, so thank you very much. We knew all along we could rely on your integrity and responsiveness to our queries.”
Matching Data and Vote Discrepancy Concerns
Earlier on the same day, Singson noted that PPCRV required 18 percent more of the transmitted votes from Comelec to fully match the data. At the time, PPCRV had 79.9 percent of the transmitted votes, while Comelec’s data reached 98 percent.
When asked about alleged vote discrepancies, Singson emphasized that the key point is that election returns have been transmitted. “I think the most important thing is we have now eyes on the data and that is all we ever asked for because that is what we all of you, the transparency to see the entire count,” she explained.
Ensuring Data Integrity with Software Tools
The Commission on Elections stated that groups receiving election returns from polling places, including the media, should use software programs designed to “clean” the data. These programs help prevent duplication of election returns, ensuring the accuracy of the vote tally.
Additionally, the poll body clarified that it does not need to clean or fix the data since results are updated in real time. This approach helps maintain the integrity of the transmitted votes and supports the transparency that the public demands.
