Negros Occidental Local Election Results Announced
BACOLOD CITY – The official proclamation of all winning candidates in the recent May 12 elections across Negros Occidental has been completed, according to local election authorities. Notably, fourteen out of the 31 local government units in the province welcomed new mayors, while the remaining 17 mayors secured reelection.
New Mayors Emerge in Several LGUs
Among the new leaders is Councilor Mayette Javellana, who triumphed over Vice Mayor Ramon Torres in Bago City. In La Carlota City, Jose Luis Jalandoni defeated incumbent Mayor Rex Jalandoon. Former Binalbagan Mayor Manuel Aranda successfully made a comeback, besting Mayor Alejandro Mirasol. Meanwhile, Councilor and former Mayor Richard Jaojoco returned to leadership in Toboso, running unopposed.
Other LGUs with newly elected mayors include Don Salvador Benedicto’s Nehemiah de la Cruz; Mikaela Escalante of Manapla; Abelardo Bantug III in Victorias City; lawyer Rowena Lizares in Talisay City; Matthew Louis Malacon of E.B. Magalona; Ricardo Presbitero in Valladolid; Mary Grace Arceo of Hinigaran; Miguel Yulo in Isabela; Añejo Nicor of La Castellana; and Leo Rafael Cueva in Sagay City.
Reelected Mayors Continue Their Terms
Meanwhile, several mayors retained their positions, including Renato Gustilo of San Carlos City, Marilyn Era of Calatrava, Melecio Yap from Escalante City, Salvador Escalante Jr. of Cadiz City, and Joedith Gallego from Silay City. Other reelected officials serve in Murcia, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, San Enrique, Moises Padilla, Himamaylan City, Sipalay City, Kabankalan City, Candoni, Cauayan, Hinoba-an, and Ilog.
Vice Mayors Across Districts Confirmed
The election also filled vice mayor positions in the province’s six districts. In the first district, Christopher Carmona of San Carlos City and others secured wins. The second district saw victories by Narciso Javelosa in Sagay City and John Vincent Escalante in Cadiz City, among others. The third district elected vice mayors including Francis Frederick Palanca in Victorias City and Angel Gabriel Villacin in Talisay City.
In the fourth district, Andrew Torres of Bago City and David Baga Jr. of La Carlota City were among the winners. The fifth district welcomed vice mayors such as Mary Ann Mirasol of Binalbagan and Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran. Meanwhile, the sixth district elected officials like Edgy Javellana in Candoni and Anna Liza Tabujara Soriano in Cauayan.
Provincial Board and Congressional Seats Filled
Members of the provincial board were also confirmed, representing each district with two members apiece. Meanwhile, congressional seats for all six districts were won by candidates including Julio Ledesma IV, Alfredo Marañon III, Javier Miguel Benitez, Jeffrey Ferrer, Emilio Yulo III, and Mercedes Alvarez. Bacolod City’s congressional seat was won by Albee Benitez.
Several officials, including Marañon, Alvarez, and Yulo, are now serving their second terms. Others, such as Ledesma, Ferrer, and the Benitezes, are beginning their first.
Provincial Leadership and Voter Turnout
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson secured his third and final term, while his running mate Jose Benito Alonso was elected for the first time. Reports indicate that Negros Occidental had 2,009,564 registered voters including Bacolod City. Voter turnout was high at 83.22 percent, with 1,369,632 citizens casting their ballots.
In the wider Negros Island Region, Negros Oriental registered an 85.23 percent turnout among 831,963 voters, and Siquijor reported a 91.84 percent turnout with 74,758 voters participating.
