Negros Occidental Police Strengthen Security for School Opening
BACOLOD CITY – More than 500 personnel from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office will be deployed across the province to ensure student safety during the upcoming school opening on June 16. Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, the spokesperson for the Negros Occidental police, shared that police assistance desks will be set up in schools, while foot and mobile patrols will increase police visibility.
“This is purposely for crime prevention and we are annually preparing this as part of our integrated patrol deployment plan,” Catalogo explained. He added that each assistance desk will be staffed by at least two policemen working in shifts, sourced from police stations in every municipality.
Collaborative Efforts to Protect Students
During a recent meeting with Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, police officials underscored the importance of boosting police presence in schools to safeguard students, parents, and teachers alike. Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod City police director, affirmed their commitment to fully deploy personnel in line with PNP Chief Police Gen. Nicolas Torre III’s directive. “We will stick to it, as all schools will be covered in patrolling,” Coronica stated.
Enhanced Patrols and Quick Response Plans
Police Lt. Col. Lester Leada, deputy city director for operations of BCPO, said their security focus will center on mobile and beat patrols around schools. These efforts align with the national headquarters’ five-minute response time target for police assistance. To strengthen their capacity, local force multipliers in barangays will also support policemen in securing school areas.
The integrated approach aims to prevent crime and ensure a safe learning environment as students return to classes. These measures reflect the police’s ongoing commitment to community protection during critical periods such as the school opening.
