BACOLOD CITY – Three candidates from Negros Occidental made remarkable achievements in the March 2025 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers. The exam, which tests the competence of aspiring educators, saw residents from this province rise to the top, highlighting the region’s growing reputation for producing quality teachers.
Among the top scorers was Maria Carmel Delada, a graduate of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) in Talisay City. She earned a spot in the top ten with an impressive score. Meanwhile, Jacob Facultad from the Philippine Normal University-Visayas (PNU-Visayas) in Cadiz City ranked fourth with a 93.20 percent rating. Another notable achiever, Roxanne Ricaplaza, also from PNU-Visayas, secured seventh place, scoring 92.60 percent.
Maria Carmel Delada’s Journey to Success
Delada, who hails from E.B. Magalona town, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in Science. At 23 years old, she completed her degree in June 2024 and began preparing for the board exam by October. She dedicated her accomplishment to her family and those who supported her throughout her journey.
“I felt overwhelmed, very happy, and blessed,” Delada shared. “I was shocked. I did not expect to be included in the Top 10 because the exam, especially the major subjects, were really difficult, to the point that we felt depressed after taking it.”
As the second child among four siblings, Delada comes from a family that values education. Her mother, Maria Carmen, works as an elementary teacher, while her father, Wilfredo, is an electrician and auto mechanic. Delada consistently excelled in her studies, graduating with honors in elementary and senior high school and serving as salutatorian in junior high.
