Negros Oriental Mpox Task Force Takes Swift Action
The provincial government of Negros Oriental has launched a dedicated Negros Oriental Mpox Task Force to halt the spread of monkeypox in the region. Although no cases have surfaced yet, Governor Manuel Sagarbarria issued an executive order on June 2 to establish this task force and implement preventive measures. The creation of the Negros Oriental Mpox Task Force responds to the growing threat posed by reported monkeypox infections across the country, highlighting the urgency to protect public health.
Governor Sagarbarria emphasized the need to boost the province’s readiness and response. “We must ensure quick detection, isolation, and treatment of any suspected or confirmed cases,” he said. The provincial government recognizes that inter-agency coordination and active community participation are vital in curbing infectious diseases’ spread.
Strong Coordination and Community Engagement
The task force is chaired by Governor Sagarbarria with the provincial health officer as vice-chairperson. Its core responsibilities include monitoring potential cases, running public education campaigns, enforcing health protocols, and managing resources effectively. All city and municipal leaders have been instructed to activate their health emergency teams immediately.
Local officials will conduct awareness drives about monkeypox prevention, maintain active surveillance, report suspected cases promptly, and ensure health facilities are prepared to manage potential infections. They will also work closely with the provincial task force to guarantee a swift and coordinated response.
Public Urged to Follow Health Protocols
Residents of Negros Oriental are strongly encouraged to practice proper hygiene, maintain social distancing, and promptly report any signs of illness. Cooperation with health authorities in contact tracing and other preventive efforts remains crucial to safeguarding the community’s wellbeing.
The provincial government pledges transparency and proactive action to confront the challenges posed by monkeypox. It has also referenced the Department of Health’s (DOH) advisories, which provide guidelines on prevention, detection, and management to minimize the virus’s impact.
Enhancing Health Services Amid Mpox Precautions
In conjunction with these efforts, Governor Sagarbarria visited the DOH-Negros Island Region office located at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital compound in Dumaguete City. This visit, held on June 2, served to strengthen coordination and discuss upcoming health initiatives before the official opening of the regional office scheduled for June 18 with DOH national leaders.
Through this collaboration, the province aims to continuously improve health services while maintaining vigilance against the monkeypox virus threat.
