MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will improve its response to emergencies with the launch of the new 911 emergency call system, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced. This new 911 emergency call system promises faster and more efficient assistance nationwide.
During a briefing at Camp Crame, Secretary Remulla shared that the upgraded 911 emergency call system is scheduled for rollout this August. “The old emergency call system was procured around 2010, so it’s four generations old. So, we’re getting the latest generation in the world. That’s what the Philippines will get now,” he emphasized.
“With the new system, I think the PNP will have a better response time and better quality of response,” he added, highlighting the significant improvements this upgrade will bring to public safety.
Features of the New 911 Emergency Call System
The new 911 emergency call system will integrate emergency hotlines from local government units (LGUs) and link closed-circuit television (CCTV) feeds directly to the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) command center. This integration aims to streamline information flow and ensure quicker action during emergencies.
Moreover, the system will support multiple regional languages, making it easier for callers across the country to communicate. Languages such as Ilocano, Kapampangan, Tagalog, Bicolano, Waray, Bisaya, and Tausug will be accommodated, enabling responders to understand and assist callers in their native tongues.
Contract and Implementation Details
The DILG recently awarded a P1.41 billion contract to a local IT firm, ePLDT, for the development and deployment of the new 911 emergency call system. The department is currently completing post-qualification procedures to finalize the deal, sources said.
Meanwhile, existing LGU emergency hotlines will continue to function as backup dispatch centers, ensuring no disruption in service as the new system rolls out.
Additional Support to Enhance Police Response
Alongside the 911 emergency call system, Secretary Remulla committed to providing the PNP with more patrol vehicles and motorcycles. These additional resources will further strengthen police presence and response capability nationwide.
With these upgrades and support, the public can expect a more reliable and timely emergency response, contributing to safer communities across the Philippines.
