New Low-Pressure Area Spotted Within PAR
Officials reported a new low-pressure area (LPA) detected within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) early Friday morning. This development was confirmed by the state weather bureau, signaling a potential shift in weather conditions for the region.
According to the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) around 9:20 a.m., the low-pressure area was located approximately 85 kilometers west-southeast of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. Community members noted that this LPA corresponds to the cloud cluster previously monitored west of northern Luzon.
Medium Chance to Develop Into Tropical Depression
Weather experts highlighted that the new low-pressure area within PAR holds a medium chance of intensifying into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. This forecast means residents and local authorities should remain vigilant as the weather system evolves.
If the LPA strengthens into a tropical depression, it will be named Lannie, marking the 12th cyclone to enter the Philippine region in 2025. Local leaders emphasized the importance of preparedness and monitoring official advisories as the situation develops.
Southwest Monsoon Brings Widespread Rain
Aside from the low-pressure area within PAR, officials also reported that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to bring widespread rainfall across most parts of the country, including Metro Manila, this Friday. This weather pattern may cause localized flooding and disruptions, prompting warnings for residents to stay alert.
Community members are advised to keep updated on weather reports and heed safety measures issued by authorities to mitigate risks from both the monsoon rains and the possible tropical cyclone.
