New PCO Chief Orders Courtesy Resignations
MANILA, Philippines — Newly appointed Presidential Communications Office chief Dave Gomez has directed all political appointees within the PCO to submit their courtesy resignations. This move marks a key step in the ongoing leadership transition at the agency.
“I confirm that. It’s part of the standard transition process to request the courtesy resignations of all political appointees,” Gomez told reporters on Tuesday, emphasizing the routine nature of this request.
Gomez Vows to Uphold Transparency and Press Freedom
Sworn in on July 11 by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Dave Gomez took the oath to serve as the new head of the PCO. At Malacañang, Gomez pledged to continue championing government transparency and protecting the rights of the press.
In a statement, he stressed, “Access to information is not a privilege—it’s a cornerstone of accountability and public trust.” Gomez also affirmed his commitment to defending every citizen’s right to free speech, highlighting the office’s vital role in fostering an open government.
Leadership Changes in the Marcos Administration
Gomez is the fifth official to lead the Presidential Communications Office under the Marcos administration. He succeeds a line of predecessors including Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Cheloy Garafil, Cesar Chavez, and most recently, Jay Ruiz. Local sources noted that such transitions aim to strengthen the agency’s mission amid evolving communication challenges.
