DepEd Announces Deployment of 666 New Plantilla Personnel
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) recently revealed that 666 new plantilla personnel will be assigned to Schools Division Offices (SDOs) across the country. This significant move aims to strengthen local public school operations and improve service delivery nationwide.
Following approval from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the education department’s request to create and reclassify multiple legal and procurement positions in 223 SDOs has finally been granted. These new plantilla positions will help fill long-standing staffing gaps that have hindered efficient functioning at the local level.
Legal and Procurement Staff to Enhance Local Operations
The approved plantilla positions include 47 Attorney III roles, 187 Legal Assistant I slots, 214 Administrative Officer IV, and 218 Administrative Officer II posts. This diverse set of roles is designed to boost legal and procurement capacities in every SDO.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara expressed optimism about the deployment, emphasizing its importance. “This is a big help for our field offices that have long lacked support. Thanks to the help of President Marcos and the DBM, we will have lawyers and procurement staff in every SDO,” he said. He added that these additions will accelerate services and reduce burnout among existing personnel.
Improving Transparency and Efficiency with New Plantilla Positions
With these new plantilla personnel, smaller SDOs will now have full-time legal officers supported by legal assistants in small and medium-sized divisions. This structure aims to provide consistent legal support tailored to each office’s needs.
Meanwhile, the procurement staff—comprising Administrative Officer IV and II positions—will focus on streamlining procurement processes. DepEd officials noted that this will ensure compliance with regulations and enhance efficiency in managing procurement tasks.
Secretary Angara highlighted that deploying these legal and procurement personnel marks a vital step forward in enhancing transparency, accountability, and service quality within the Department of Education.
