New Witness Strengthens Missing Sabungeros Case
MANILA — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced on Tuesday that authorities are currently holding a new witness in the missing sabungeros case. This development could significantly reinforce the testimony of whistleblower Julie “Totoy” Patidongan.
The new witness, a civilian, reportedly has direct knowledge of the disappearances and brings tangible evidence to support the ongoing investigation. “There is real evidence here. Aside from just a story, this witness comes with actual proof to support it,” Remulla said in Filipino during an informal interview.
Law Enforcement Moves to Clear Investigation Path
On the same day, Remulla expressed gratitude to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III for swiftly relieving a service commander involved in the probe due to questionable conduct. “I asked General Torre to relieve a certain service commander, and it was done. So now, our path toward resolving this problem is once again clear,” he stated in Filipino.
Although Remulla did not reveal the identity or specific misconduct of the relieved officer, he clarified that this individual was not among those already facing administrative charges related to the case. “But he did something I did not approve of. You know, trust is extremely important in this kind of process … because without trust, how can people be expected to speak out?” he added.
Government Vows Accountability for Missing Sabungeros
In his fourth State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized that the entire government is committed to resolving the mystery surrounding the missing sabungeros. He assured the public that all involved parties, whether civilians or public officials, will be held accountable.
The families of the missing sabungeros have been actively seeking answers, as seen in previous visits to the Department of Justice. Authorities continue to pursue leads to bring closure to this troubling case.
