Newly Elected Leaders Must Prioritize Education Progress
Education Secretary Sonny Angara urged newly elected officials to place education at the forefront of their agendas. As they begin their terms, he emphasized that leadership should be anchored on facts and data-driven decisions. “The people have placed their trust in you. Hope alone is not enough. Leadership must have clarity,” he said through a speech delivered by an undersecretary at a national education forum.
He encouraged officials to move beyond campaign promises and take concrete steps to improve the education system. According to him, this involves building better schools, supporting teachers, and providing the youth with the opportunities they deserve.
Commitment to Education and Democracy
Secretary Angara also praised over 600,000 teachers and Department of Education personnel who served as election workers. He described them as “frontliners of democracy” whose dedication helped conduct smooth and orderly elections in schools nationwide.
He noted that the strong voter turnout reflects a renewed commitment to democratic processes in the country. Their professionalism, he said, was crucial in ensuring that polling places operated efficiently during the elections.
Continuing the Work after Elections
Despite the conclusion of the elections, Angara reminded leaders that the responsibility to improve education continues. He stressed that education is essential for national progress and must remain a key priority for all elected officials.
He called on government leaders to use available data and evidence to develop responsive education programs. This approach, he believes, will result in meaningful improvements in the quality of education delivered to Filipino youth.
“The elections are over, but our work continues. Let’s all help build better schools, support our teachers, and give our youth the future they deserve,” Angara added.
By focusing on education progress, the new leaders can ensure a stronger foundation for the country’s future generations.
