Newly Elected Leaders Must Work Together

Newly Elected Leaders Must Work Together for the Nation

One day after Election Day, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged the newly elected officials to unite and collaborate for the common good, regardless of their political affiliations. He emphasized that governance is a collective responsibility that demands both unity and shared effort.

“Governance is a shared responsibility, a mission that requires unity and burden sharing for the common good. To the newly elected, regardless of party or coalition, I extend my hand. Let us move forward together—with open minds and a common purpose,” the President declared in a message on Tuesday.

Addressing the Nation’s Key Challenges Together

President Marcos highlighted the pressing issues that the new leaders must confront, including inflation, job creation, corruption, and the daily struggles faced by ordinary Filipinos. He called on everyone to work hand in hand to find solutions.

He also referenced a powerful quote from his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., saying, “If we are to prevail, we must prevail as Filipinos—for it is the only way to endure. If we are to attain our goals, we must march forward, not to the past but to the future. And we must do this as one family, a nation united.”

Election Day Reflects Renewed Democracy

The President expressed his gratitude to all Filipinos who exercised their right to vote in the 2025 midterm elections. He described the peaceful, orderly, and dignified conduct of the elections as a sign of democracy’s renewal.

“It is both a celebration of continuity and a call to act on the real challenges our people face,” he said, encouraging everyone to see the election as a beginning rather than an end.

Continuing the Mission Beyond Elections

President Marcos also thanked those who supported the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas candidates, appreciating their trust in the administration’s senatorial slate. Although not every seat was won, he reassured that their work and mission will carry on.

He added, “To those who did not make it, your courage to stand for public service is deeply respected. Public service goes beyond elections. The work of nation-building needs all who are ready to serve.” This call underscores the importance of unity and continued dedication regardless of election outcomes.

Vote Tallying Underway for Senatorial and Party-List Candidates

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), acting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), began tallying votes for senatorial and party-list candidates on Tuesday. They reconvened at the Manila Hotel to open certificates of canvass from international posts and local absentee voting.

The poll body aims to proclaim the winning 12 senators by Saturday, May 17, marking a critical step in finalizing the election results.
