No Explosives Found After Pampanga State University Bomb Threat
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Authorities confirmed that no explosive devices were discovered following a bomb threat that disrupted the graduation ceremonies at Pampanga State University. The threat led to the cancellation of four scheduled events, affecting nearly 4,000 graduating students.
Police officials promptly deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams and highly trained K9 units to conduct a thorough inspection of the university premises. “Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, supported by highly trained K9 units, were deployed without delay to conduct a meticulous inspection and clearing of the venue. The premises were secured, and no explosive device was found,” stated police Col. Eugene Marcelo, as shared on Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda’s social media page.
Graduation Ceremonies Interrupted
The first graduation ceremony scheduled at 8 a.m. on Thursday was abruptly cut short. Approximately 500 students were unable to receive their diplomas on stage at the Dr. Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Complex, located on the main campus in Bacolor town, according to a university professor.
Following this, Pampanga State University announced on its official Facebook page that the 2 p.m. ceremony on August 14, as well as both the 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies on August 15, would be postponed indefinitely. As of now, new dates for these events remain unconfirmed.
Swift Police Action and Investigation Underway
In a statement issued at 1:30 p.m., Col. Marcelo assured the public that law enforcement took swift and decisive action to ensure the safety of all attendees. He added that the bomb threat was received by a student via a phone message, highlighting the importance of vigilance among the school community.
He praised the school administration’s cooperation, noting their “collective vigilance” in handling the situation in an orderly manner. Marcelo urged everyone to stay calm but remain alert, encouraging prompt reporting of any suspicious persons, objects, or activities to the nearest police station.
Condemning the disruption, Marcelo emphasized that a thorough investigation is ongoing to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the malicious threat.
Community Response and Next Steps
Local leaders and community members expressed relief that no explosives were found but remain concerned about the safety of students and staff. The university has yet to announce the resumption or new schedules for the postponed graduation ceremonies.
As the investigation continues, authorities reaffirm their commitment to protecting the university and the community from similar threats in the future.
