Manila 6th District Rep. Denies Ghost Projects
Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. firmly declared that there are no ghost projects or substandard flood control projects in his district. This assurance came during a recent interview where the congressman addressed concerns about alleged anomalous flood control initiatives across the country.
“I would like to say that there’s no substandard project in my district. There’s no ghost project in my district that I could be able to assure the public about that,” Abante emphasized, as shared by community members following the interview.
Oversight Ensures Project Quality
As chair of the House Committee on Human Rights, Abante explained that his office continuously monitors the quality of projects within his district. He assured that no incomplete or poor-quality projects are inaugurated under his watch.
When asked if the public or reporters could find any substandard projects in his area, the congressman confidently replied, “Wala kayong makikita. (You cannot see anything.)” He also remarked, “During my time. I do not know the past congressman, but during my time, wala (none).”
Background and Political Tenure
Abante has been a House representative since 2004, serving from 2004 to 2010, before returning for the 19th Congress and securing reelection for the 20th Congress. His long tenure has helped him maintain strict supervision over local projects.
Flood Control Investigations Expand Beyond Manila
Recently, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno proposed including the City of Manila in a broader investigation into flood control projects. Moreno revealed that about ₱14 billion worth of flood control projects were completed in Manila from 2022 to 2025.
Additionally, the mayor reported that there are “112 new ongoing projects without permits,” raising questions about project legitimacy and compliance.
While Abante supports the mayor’s call for inquiry, he suggested expanding the investigation beyond Manila City to cover other affected areas nationwide. Officials noted that a comprehensive probe could provide clearer insights into flood control efforts across the country.
Commitment to Transparency and Progress
Local leaders reiterated Abante’s commitment to transparency and quality in public infrastructure. His firm stance against ghost projects aims to reassure residents that their district’s flood control initiatives are legitimate and effective.
As concerns over flood control projects continue to draw public attention, authorities emphasize the importance of thorough oversight and accountability to protect communities vulnerable to flooding.
