No Threats So Far for Marcos’ 4th Sona, PNP Reports
MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Nicolas Torre III, assured the public that no threats have been detected in relation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) scheduled for July 28. Authorities remain vigilant but have not identified any security risks so far.
General Torre emphasized that the main concern for the day is the weather. “Hopefully, the weather will clear up so our deployment can proceed more smoothly. We are ready in terms of logistics; we’ve prepared plenty of umbrellas so rallyists can also take cover,” he shared during a press briefing on Monday.
He added, “So that rain or shine, everyone remains comfortable and the security environment stays secure, allowing our president to deliver his Sona smoothly.” This demonstrates the PNP’s commitment to maintaining order regardless of weather conditions.
Extensive Police Deployment and Coordination Planned
Earlier this month, officials announced that nearly 12,000 police officers will be deployed nationwide to manage security during the Sona. This massive deployment underscores the importance placed on ensuring a peaceful event.
To coordinate efforts, the PNP will set up a command center at the Batasan Police Station. Additionally, a multi-agency coordinating center will operate from the Quezon City Police District headquarters located in Camp Karingal. These centers aim to facilitate seamless communication among various agencies involved in the security preparations.
Local leaders noted that these measures reflect careful planning to safeguard both the president and participants during the Sona. The PNP’s proactive steps, including logistical readiness and multi-agency cooperation, aim to provide a secure environment for this significant national event.
