Flooding Shuts Down Parts of North Luzon Expressway
Heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” have caused flooding that made three parts of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) impassable to all vehicle types as of Monday evening. The NLEx Corporation reported these closures to ensure public safety amid worsening road conditions.
Areas Closed to All Vehicles
As of 7:15 p.m., the NLEx Corporation listed the following sections as not accessible to any vehicles:
– Balintawak Cloverleaf Southbound
– Valenzuela Interchange Northbound and Southbound (under the bridge)
– Paso de Blas Southbound Entry and Exit
Meanwhile, the Balintawak Cloverleaf Northbound remains open but only for class 3 vehicles. Other stretches of NLEx, as well as the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and NLEx Connector, continue to be passable.
Toll Plazas Temporarily Closed
Due to the flooding, several toll plazas have been temporarily shut down, including:
– Paso de Blas Southbound Entry/Exit
– Meycauayan Southbound Entry
– Marilao Southbound Entry
– Ciudad de Victoria Southbound Entry
Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Luzon
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a heavy rainfall outlook at 5:00 p.m., forecasting intense rains ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters in Metro Manila and several nearby provinces from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. Areas expected to experience heavy rainfall include:
– Zambales
– Bataan
– Pampanga
– Bulacan
– Cavite
– Batangas
– Rizal
The continuing rains and flooding have prompted authorities to monitor road conditions closely. Travelers are urged to plan their routes accordingly and stay updated on traffic advisories.
