Northern Mindanao Records 112 Election Gun Ban Violators
BUTUAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-10 announced they apprehended 112 violators during the five-month election gun ban in Northern Mindanao. This enforcement was part of efforts to ensure peace and security throughout the region amid the 2025 national and local elections.
“We are happy to present to you our significant accomplishments in its implementation of 2025 NLE in Northern Mindanao region,” said Police Major Joann G. Navarro, Regional Public Information Officer, on June 12. She reported that various PRO-10 units confiscated 104 firearms and recovered 795 rounds of ammunition from January 12 to June 11.
Police Praise Enforcement Efforts
Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. de Guzman, PRO-10 Director, commended the police forces for their dedication in upholding the gun ban. He emphasized the importance of maintaining election integrity and public safety during this critical period.
“Although the gun ban has officially ended, carrying firearms without proper documentation remains strictly prohibited,” he reminded the public. De Guzman warned that the conclusion of the Commission on Elections gun ban does not grant anyone the right to possess or carry firearms unlawfully.
Strict Firearm Regulations Remain in Effect
He urged all residents to comply with national laws on firearm ownership, which require a valid License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) and a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR). “Any firearm found in the possession of a person without these legal requirements will be considered illegal and may lead to arrest and legal charges.”
De Guzman also called on Northern Mindanao residents to be responsible gun owners. “All firearms must have complete and valid documents to avoid legal consequences and prevent their misuse in criminal activities,” he added.
Public Cooperation Encouraged
PRO-10 encourages citizens to report any individuals carrying undocumented or illegal firearms. This community cooperation is vital in sustaining peace and preventing crime in the region.
