Northern Samar Eyes Dialysis Centers Partnership
TACLOBAN CITY — The Northern Samar provincial government is actively pursuing a partnership with Tres Medica Inc. to establish dialysis centers across the province. This move aims to improve healthcare access by expanding vital medical services locally.
Jhon Allen Berbon, head of the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO), shared that the province shifted its focus toward healthcare development through collaborations with private providers. “With this partnership, the province of Northern Samar can further expand the distribution of its medical services to match the demand of the populace,” he said in a recent interview.
Berbon emphasized that by working with the private sector to open more dialysis centers, patients will no longer need to travel long distances or endure lengthy queues to receive treatment. This initiative will address the urgent need for accessible dialysis care in Northern Samar.
Plans to Open Three Dialysis Centers
The initial plan is to set up three dialysis centers in key locations: the capital town of Catarman, along with the towns of Allen and Laoang. Currently, dialysis options are limited, especially outside the provincial capital.
Tres Medica Inc. already operates three dialysis centers in Luzon, including facilities in Cainta, Marikina, and Quezon City. Each center is equipped with 10 to 20 dialysis machines and serves over 4,000 patients monthly, demonstrating the company’s capacity to meet high demand.
Current Dialysis Services in Northern Samar
The Northern Samar Provincial Hospital inaugurated its hemodialysis unit on December 7, 2023. Since then, it has helped over 65 patients and performed more than 700 dialysis treatments by the first quarter of 2025. This service primarily benefits patients who cannot afford private care.
Besides the provincial hospital unit, there are two privately managed dialysis centers in Catarman. However, there are no dialysis facilities available outside the capital town, making the proposed partnership crucial to increasing healthcare access for residents in more remote areas.
Local leaders noted that this collaboration with Tres Medica Inc. could significantly ease the burden on dialysis patients by providing more convenient treatment locations. “This partnership aligns with our goal to enhance medical services throughout Northern Samar,” Berbon said.
