NPA Claims Another Killing in Negros Occidental
The New People’s Army claimed responsibility for another killing on Thursday, targeting a farmer in Toboso town, Negros Occidental. This latest incident occurred shortly after the victim had dropped his son off at school.
Johnny Boy “Jemboy” dela Fuente, 35, was fatally shot at 6:55 a.m. in Sitio Vergara, Barangay Bug-ang. He was riding home on a motorcycle when two armed men blocked his path about 900 meters from the elementary school in Sitio Magto-od, according to police reports.
Authorities confirmed that dela Fuente died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds. Police recovered one empty 5.56mm shell and five empty .45 caliber pistol shells at the scene.
Police Response and Investigation
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, regional director for Negros Island, strongly condemned the killing. He assured the public that all resources are being mobilized to deliver justice for the victim and his family.
NPA’s Justification and Accusations
The Roselyn Jean Pelle Command of the Northern Negros Guerilla Front said it executed a long-standing death sentence imposed by the Revolutionary People’s Court against dela Fuente. They accused him of being an intelligence asset for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Ka Celle Estrella, spokesperson for the RJPC-NPA, stated that dela Fuente allegedly led soldiers from the 62nd Infantry Brigade to raid the home of an NPA member. Furthermore, he reportedly claimed that members of a local cooperative were involved with the rebel movement.
Another NPA-Linked Killing in Negros Occidental
Separately, the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region condemned the killing of a former village official in Manapla town. Pablo Brillantes, 54, was shot dead outside his home in Hacienda Cabayao, Barangay San Pablo, on Wednesday, September 3.
The RJPC-NPA claimed responsibility for this killing as well. Witnesses provided sworn statements identifying the suspects as members of the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army.
Brillantes was described by neighbors as a “peace-loving individual with no derogatory record” and a respected public servant. Authorities believe he was mistakenly targeted under the suspicion of being an informant for the Philippine Army.
Authorities Pledge Justice and Call for Public Support
The Police Regional Office assured Brillantes’ family and the community that justice will be relentlessly pursued. The Philippine National Police labeled the killing a “cowardly act of violence” and urged residents to help end the atrocities committed by the CPP-NPA.
A formal case is expected to be filed pending the release of post-mortem and ballistic examination results from the Crime Laboratory.
