In a tense clash in Barangay Humay-humay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, an alleged New People’s Army (NPA) fighter lost his life during a government forces operation on the morning of May 1, 2025.
The encounter led to the recovery of the male body amid a clearing operation. Authorities seized an M16 rifle, ammunition, and personal belongings, as well as subversive documents believed to be linked to the insurgent group.
The firefight also left a Philippine Army soldier wounded in the line of duty. In the wake of the violence, local residents were forced to evacuate to safer areas, their peace shattered by the sudden outbreak of conflict.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is now on the ground, assessing the number of families displaced by the incident. Efforts to gather more information from the barangay chairman are ongoing.
