Fire Truck Bay Vehicles Prompt Officials’ Removal
MANILA, Philippines — Several officials at the Makati City Fire Station were relieved from their posts after a surprise inspection by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) revealed private vehicles parked in the fire truck bay. This incident highlights the critical importance of keeping fire truck bays clear to ensure swift emergency responses.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla led the inspection on July 1, 2025, and emphasized that obstructing fire truck bays can cause significant delays in responding to fires and other emergencies where lives and property are at risk. “Obstructions will cause a huge delay in responding to fires and other public safety emergencies where lives and properties are on the line,” he stated.
Strict Enforcement of Fire Truck Bay Regulations
While the department did not disclose the exact number or ranks of the relieved officials, it cited Republic Act 9514, known as the Fire Code of the Philippines. This law mandates that fire truck and emergency vehicle bays remain unobstructed to prevent any disruption in emergency services.
The Fire Code also warns that officials responsible for such violations may face administrative sanctions for willful impropriety or gross negligence in their duties, underscoring the gravity of the offense.
Clear Egress Routes Vital for Emergency Response
To avoid further incidents, the DILG urged all fire station chiefs to strictly prohibit parking near fire trucks. They must also ensure the immediate removal of unauthorized vehicles blocking the path of emergency response units. This measure is crucial to maintain quick and unhindered access during critical situations.
The department’s decisive action serves as a reminder of the vital role that fire truck bay regulations play in public safety and the need for accountability among local officials.
