Orange Rainfall Warning Threatens Metro Manila and Luzon
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued an orange rainfall warning early Thursday, signaling heavy rain and possible flooding in Metro Manila and seven areas across Luzon. The alert warns of intense rainfall ranging from 15 to 30 millimeters within the next three hours, heightening flood risks in vulnerable zones.
Areas under this orange rainfall warning include Metro Manila, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and parts of Zambales and Quezon. Local leaders noted the urgency of preparedness as these regions face the threat of rising waters and ongoing heavy rains.
Areas Under Orange and Yellow Rainfall Alerts
Besides those at orange alert, five other Luzon provinces are under a yellow rainfall warning. This indicates rainfall amounts between 7.5 to 15 millimeters within three hours. Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan, selected parts of Zambales, and specific municipalities in Quezon fall under this category.
Residents in flood-prone communities are advised to remain vigilant, as the weather bureau warned that flooding remains a possibility despite ongoing monitoring efforts. The continuous downpour could overwhelm drainage systems and waterways in some localities.
Heavy Rains Affect Nueva Ecija; Tropical Storm Updates
Meanwhile, Nueva Ecija is experiencing light to moderate rains, occasionally heavy, which are expected to persist for several hours. This ongoing weather pattern adds to the challenges for residents and local authorities managing flood risks.
In a related advisory, authorities reported that Tropical Cyclone Emong has strengthened into a severe tropical storm. It was last tracked 245 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union, with maximum sustained winds reaching 110 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 135 kph.
Warnings for Northern Pangasinan and Western La Union
Due to Emong’s intensification, northern areas of Pangasinan—including Anda, Bolinao, and Bani—and western sections of La Union such as Luna, Balaoan, Bacnotan, and other municipalities are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3. Other nearby areas remain on Signals 2 and 1, urging residents to prepare accordingly.
At the same time, Tropical Storm Dante holds steady with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and gusts up to 90 kph. It is situated about 790 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, moving north-northwest at 15 kph, sources said.
Authorities continue to monitor these weather systems closely and advise the public to stay informed through official channels.
