Orange Rainfall Warning Hits Metro Manila and Nearby Provinces
State meteorologists have issued an orange rainfall warning across Metro Manila and several nearby provinces on Monday. This alert signals an increased risk of flooding, urging residents to remain vigilant. The orange rainfall warning covers not only the National Capital Region but also parts of Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Batangas, and Laguna.
According to local weather authorities, heavy rains driven by the northwest monsoon, or “habagat,” intensified by Tropical Storm Crising, are causing water levels to rise rapidly. “FLOODING is THREATENING,” the agency emphasized in its 10:45 a.m. update. As a result, many major roads in Metro Manila have already experienced flooding as of Monday morning.
Understanding the Rainfall Warning Levels
The weather agency classifies rainfall warnings into three levels. The yellow warning indicates moderate rainfall with low flood risk. The orange warning, currently in effect, means flooding is likely in low-lying areas and near river channels. The highest alert, red warning, signals severe flooding and potential widespread damage.
Earlier on Monday at 8:00 a.m., Manila was placed under a yellow rainfall warning. However, the situation quickly escalated, prompting the upgrade to orange. Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to stay alert and prepare for possible evacuations.
Flood Impact and Safety Measures
Floodwaters have inundated several parts of Barangay Roxas District, forcing 19 families, or 74 individuals, to seek refuge in a local gymnasium. Motorists and commuters face difficulties navigating flooded streets, such as the intersection of Banaue Street and N.S. Amoranto in Quezon City.
Local officials and community leaders continue to monitor the situation closely. They remind residents to avoid flooded roads and to report emergencies promptly. The weather bureau plans to release its next flood update at 2:00 p.m.
