Orange Rainfall Warning Raised Over Metro Manila and Luzon
Metro Manila and five provinces in Luzon are under an orange rainfall warning due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally called habagat. This warning signals heavy rains of 15 to 30 millimeters expected within the next three hours, sources said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued the alert at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The orange rainfall warning covers Metro Manila, Bataan, Bulacan, Zambales, Pampanga, and Rizal. Officials warned that flooding remains a serious threat in these areas.
Areas Under Yellow Rainfall Warning
Meanwhile, a yellow warning level is set for Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna. These areas are expected to receive 7.5 to 15 millimeters of rain within three hours. Flooding may also occur in low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Quezon province is experiencing light to moderate rain with occasional heavy downpours, which could continue for the next three hours, local leaders noted.
Severe Tropical Storm Wipha Moving Away
As of 5 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Wipha, formerly known as Crising, remains strong but is moving away from the country. It was last reported 345 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 125 kph. It is moving west-northwest at 20 kph, sources said.
