Over 1,000 LGUs Complete Briefing for Newly Elected Officials
MANILA, Philippines — Over 1,000 local government units (LGUs) have successfully completed their briefing sessions for newly elected officials, according to sources from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). These briefings aim to equip local leaders with essential knowledge and tools to serve their communities effectively.
The briefing program, known as Newly Elected Officials Performing Leadership for Uplifting Service (NEO PLUS), started last July shortly after the new local executives began their terms on June 30. The initiative ensures that officials understand their roles and responsibilities from the onset.
Guidance Through Governance Assessment
The DILG highlighted that the briefings included a comprehensive Governance Assessment Report. This report helps identify performance gaps and priority areas that the newly elected leaders need to address. By focusing on these specific needs, the program tailors support to each LGU’s unique context.
In addition, local governance transition teams have been established to assist in orienting new officials and facilitate the turnover of government properties. This approach promotes a smooth and transparent transition that benefits both outgoing and incoming leaders.
Empowering Officials with Strategic Tools
“The briefing equips officials with the knowledge, tools, and strategic pathways necessary to lead with integrity, transparency, and purpose,” the department explained. These sessions provide evidence-based insights and local governance diagnostics, ensuring recommendations fit the needs of each LGU.
Local leaders noted that the program’s focus on practical, context-specific advice helps them tackle challenges effectively while fostering good governance practices. Many expressed optimism about applying these learnings to uplift their communities.
Such initiatives demonstrate a commitment to strengthening local governance and enhancing public service delivery across the country. As more LGUs complete their briefings, the impact of the NEO PLUS program is expected to grow, driving better outcomes for Filipino communities nationwide.
