Over 3,000 Police Officers Ready for Eleksyon 2025
More than 3,000 police officers and personnel stand ready to serve as special electoral boards (SEBs) for Eleksyon 2025. The Philippine National Police (PNP) is preparing to deploy these officers if the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) requests assistance.
During a recent briefing, the PNP’s Director for Police Community Relations explained that these officers could fill in for teachers and other poll workers in remote or hard-to-reach areas. This ensures that voting areas remain fully staffed and functional.
Strategic Deployment and Security Plans
The PNP has also put security plans in place to support the election period. Their goal is to maintain peace and order while providing well-trained personnel for the electoral process. The readiness of these special electoral boards aims to prevent disruptions and help voters exercise their rights smoothly.
Election Hotspots and Security Focus
As of early May, authorities have identified 37 election hotspots across the country. Most of these, 35 in total, are located in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), which remains a key area of focus for security operations.
All Hands on Deck for May 12 Polls
With the elections scheduled for Monday, May 12, the PNP has declared an “all hands on deck” approach. They are mobilizing resources to ensure safety and order during the voting process.
Polling precincts will open as early as 5 a.m. to allow senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant voters to cast their ballots early until 7 a.m. Regular voting hours will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., accommodating the majority of voters.
The Commission on Elections remains confident that the midterm elections will proceed peacefully and orderly, supported by the strong preparations of the PNP and other agencies.
