Over 522 Million Drugs Seized in Central Visayas from January to June
Authorities in Central Visayas have confiscated over P522 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 4,733 individuals on drug-related charges between January and June of this year. This aggressive campaign involved 4,101 operations throughout the region, local officials reported.
The Police Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) highlighted the scale of the drug seizures, which included 76.12 kilograms of shabu (crystal meth) valued at P517.61 million. Other confiscated items comprised dried marijuana leaves and plants worth P3.03 million, 250 grams of cocaine valued at P1.32 million, and 60 ecstasy tablets amounting to P102,000.
Detailed Breakdown of Arrests and Ongoing Efforts
Among the 4,733 arrested individuals, authorities identified 238 as “high-value individuals,” 2,522 as “street-level targets,” and 1,963 as “newly-identified drug personalities.” These categories help law enforcement prioritize their efforts against different layers of the drug trade.
Local leaders noted, “PRO 7 vowed to further strengthen coordination with national government agencies, local government units, barangay officials, and civil society groups to intensify prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation efforts across the region.” This multi-sectoral approach aims to sustain momentum and reduce drug-related activities effectively.
Continuing the Fight Against Illegal Drugs
This recent crackdown is part of a broader campaign to curb the illegal drug trade in Central Visayas. Authorities remain committed to dismantling drug networks and supporting community rehabilitation programs. The collaboration between police forces and local communities is vital for long-term success.
