OVP Launches Libreng Sakay Free Ride Program in Tacloban City
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has introduced its Libreng Sakay free ride program in Tacloban City, the hometown of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who is a political rival of Vice President Sara Duterte. This initiative aims to provide commuters with easier, free, and accessible transportation options.
In a recent statement, the OVP explained, “Layunin ng OVP na mas makapagbigay ng mas madali, libre, at accessible na biyahe para sa ating mga Filipino commuters.” This reflects their commitment to improving public transit for Filipinos.
Expanding Access to Free Shuttle Rides Nationwide
The Libreng Sakay program began on August 3, 2022, initially serving Metro Manila and several key cities including Naic-Cavite, Cebu, Bacolod, Davao, and Tacloban. Since then, it has expanded to meet the growing demand for affordable transportation.
Currently, four fully air-conditioned Libreng Sakay buses operate in Metro Manila. Two buses cover the EDSA Carousel route, running between Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and Monumento. The other two buses serve commuters traveling between Quiapo and Commonwealth Avenue.
Comfort and Convenience on Every Ride
All OVP Libreng Sakay buses come equipped with essential amenities to ensure a comfortable journey. Passengers can enjoy free Wi-Fi, charging ports for their devices, and portable toilets onboard. These features aim to make daily commutes safer and more pleasant for all riders.
Local sources noted that the program’s launch in Tacloban City marks a significant step toward improving mobility in the region. It also demonstrates the OVP’s dedication to serving communities regardless of political boundaries.
