OVP Ready for Any Eventuality on 2026 Budget
MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) announced on Wednesday that it is prepared for any eventuality should its proposed 2026 budget of P903 million face reductions. The OVP remains committed to carrying out its programs regardless of possible budget adjustments.
“The OVP is ready for any eventuality, whether the budget is reduced or reverted to P733 million for 2025,” OVP spokesperson Ruth Castelo said during a press briefing. She stressed that the office will continue pursuing its planned initiatives despite uncertainties.
Confidence in Budget Approval Despite Possible Cuts
Castelo expressed optimism that lawmakers will approve the proposed budget. She highlighted that the proposal contains no confidential funds, which typically trigger more scrutiny.
Senator Win Gatchalian, chair of the Senate finance committee, described the OVP’s budget as “feasible” as long as controversial items like confidential funds are excluded. This endorsement boosts confidence that the budget, set at P903 million, will gain approval.
Program Allocations Reflect Increased Funding Needs
The OVP’s 2026 budget is itemized by program, with some allocations exceeding the 2025 levels. A notable increase is seen in the disaster operations fund, which rose from P30.25 million to P56.62 million.
“Of course, this will necessarily include inflation and then the additional personnel that we will need to complete a bigger project… that’s included; that’s why we have an increase of P26 million,” Castelo explained.
Despite the possibility of budget reductions, the OVP remains focused on delivering essential services and projects. Local leaders noted that readiness to adjust will help the office sustain its commitments.
