OWWA’s Welfare Aid Supports Uncovered OFWs

Expanded Support for Uncovered Situations

The Department of Migrant Workers, through the Welfare Assistance Program (WAP), ensures that no Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is left behind—especially those who fall outside the scope of standard OWWA benefits. This initiative provides financial relief to both active and inactive OWWA members and their families who are not eligible for other social benefit programs.

By addressing a wide range of emergencies, WAP offers a safety net for those facing unexpected hardship. Whether the crisis stems from natural disasters, accidents, or sudden unemployment, the program steps in with cash assistance to help ease the burden.

Department of Migrant Workers Extends Help

Natural calamities are unpredictable, but WAP ensures that affected members receive timely support. In the wake of typhoons, earthquakes, or flooding, OWWA can provide financial assistance to members and their families who suffer losses. The same applies to human-induced disasters such as political unrest or emergencies caused by conflict or displacement.

Families of deceased OFWs who do not qualify for the regular death or burial benefits—especially in cases of accidents or crime—may receive bereavement assistance under this program. It also covers medical help for illnesses not included in MEDplus, and financial aid for those injured in crimes or accidents.

Emergency Relief for Displaced Workers

Job loss, especially on a large scale, can throw an OFW’s life into turmoil. Through WAP, displaced workers affected by economic downturns, company closures, or global health emergencies can apply for relief assistance. This support can be a lifeline as they search for new opportunities or wait for repatriation.

Disability assistance is also available for OFWs who suffered injuries due to crimes or unforeseen events, allowing them a better chance at recovery and reintegration. By offering coverage where other programs do not, WAP demonstrates the government’s inclusive approach to migrant welfare.
