Oxygen tank brings voter to Basak Elementary School despite health challenges
On Monday, a determined resident from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, brought her oxygen tank as she went to cast her vote. Wearing a face mask and connected to oxygen tubes, she made her way to Basak Elementary School to fulfill her duty as a voter.
This 60-year-old woman is fighting Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a long-term lung condition caused by damage to the lungs. Experts say COPD often results from cigarette smoke or prolonged exposure to irritants such as smoke, dust, or chemicals.
Voting priority for senior citizens, PWDs, and pregnant women
To accommodate voters with special needs, voting opened early at 5 a.m. for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women. This move aims to ensure the comfort and safety of vulnerable groups during the election process.
Her commitment to vote, even while relying on medical support, highlights the strong spirit of Filipino voters who overcome challenges to participate in the democratic process.
