PAGASA Halts Daily Heat Index Reports
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially suspended the daily heat index reports following the announcement of the rainy season’s start. This pause takes effect immediately and will continue until March 1, 2026, when the hot and dry season usually begins in many areas across the country.
“With the official declaration of the onset of the rainy season, our daily issuance of heat index information will be temporarily suspended starting today,” the agency stated. The suspension of the daily heat index reports reflects PAGASA’s shift in focus toward monitoring weather hazards related to the rainy season.
Focus Shifts to Rainy Season Hazards
During this period, PAGASA will prioritize delivering timely and accurate updates about heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides. These weather threats are common in the rainy season and require continuous monitoring to ensure public safety.
Even though the daily heat index forecasts are on hold, real-time temperature data remains accessible. PAGASA’s automatic weather stations and the interactive iHeatMap continue to provide current heat readings, both available on the agency’s official website.
Safety Tips for Residents Amid Changing Weather
Residents in areas still experiencing high temperatures are encouraged to stay alert by following announcements from their local government units. It is important to remain cautious and prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.
Local leaders have noted the importance of this advisory, urging communities to prioritize safety and monitor updates regularly. This shift in focus will help better address the challenges posed by the rainy season.
