PAGASA Upgrades PANaHON 3D Web-Based Platform

PAGASA Enhances PANaHON 3D Web-Based Decision Support System

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has launched significant upgrades to its PANaHON 3D Web-Based Decision Support Information System. This interactive platform now provides more accurate and accessible weather information, helping disaster managers and local government units nationwide with timely data.

The PANaHON 3D web-based system features integrated gridded forecasts, delivering detailed weather data such as rainfall accumulation, temperature, wind, and pressure for any location—even those without nearby PAGASA weather stations. Users can explore this data easily through clickable map grids, time sliders, and location-based search functions, making the experience both detailed and user-friendly.

Centralized Weather Warnings Improve Disaster Response

One of the platform’s biggest upgrades is its consolidation of all regional weather warnings into a single, centralized alert system. This system displays real-time hazards on a color-coded interactive map, offering a unified view of warnings issued by all five PAGASA Regional Services Divisions. This allows disaster managers and local government officials to monitor weather threats more efficiently using just one platform.

“PANaHON now acts as a one-stop shop for all official weather warnings across the country,” said a senior PAGASA weather specialist. He added that the platform integrates official PAGASA warnings with near-real-time observation data—a level of reliability and immediacy not found in other platforms such as the Windy app.

“This interactive map provides all PAGASA warnings and observation data from ground sensors, radars, and satellites. That’s information other platforms don’t offer,” he explained.

Ensuring Accuracy and Combating Misinformation

The specialist also emphasized PANaHON’s role in guaranteeing the accuracy of official weather information. “One thing we ensure is that all official information will be coming from this site. So it won’t become a source of fake news,” he said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA Administrator Dr. Nathaniel Servando highlighted that these upgrades are crucial to supporting local planning, risk reduction, and disaster preparedness efforts nationwide. The platform’s relaunch coincides with Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week, observed every third week of June to promote readiness against weather-related hazards.

This year’s theme, “Kahandaan sa Bagyo at Baha, Solusyon sa Ligtas na Bayan” (Being Ready for Typhoons and Floods is the Key to a Safe Community), underscores the importance of preparedness.

“This platform will help disaster managers and local government units access timely and reliable weather data essential for decision-making during emergencies,” Servando said.

Ongoing Development and User Engagement

The upgraded PANaHON platform is continuously refined based on user feedback to enhance its features and accessibility. PAGASA encourages disaster managers and local officials to use this tool as a trusted source of official weather information, especially during severe weather events.
