Pagcor Supports Stricter Regulations on Online Gambling
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) expressed its openness to the proposal for imposing stricter regulations on online gambling. The move comes amid growing concerns over illegal gaming activities in the country.
“It is the prerogative of our lawmakers to propose laws which they think will be beneficial to the public,” Pagcor said in an official statement. This response followed the recent filing of a Senate bill aimed at tightening rules against online gambling platforms.
Senate Pushes for Tighter Online Gambling Rules
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian introduced a bill that not only seeks to impose stricter regulations but also pushes for banning the use of e-wallets in online gambling transactions. This initiative aims to curb the ease of access to unregulated gaming sites and protect Filipinos from illegal gambling operations.
Pagcor assured the public that, in cooperation with other government agencies and organizations, it remains fully committed to intensifying efforts to stop the spread of unauthorized online gaming.
Government Actions Against Illegal Gaming
Last month, during a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro shared that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has already taken down 7,000 unauthorized online gaming websites identified by Pagcor. The government continues to take a firm stance against illegal internet gaming platforms.
Castro also urged the public to refrain from promoting or supporting unlicensed gaming sites, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate their continued operation.
Ongoing Commitment to Combat Illegal Online Gaming
With the proposed legislation and government interventions, Pagcor and allied agencies aim to create a safer and more regulated online gaming environment. The move addresses growing public concern and strives to protect Filipinos from the risks associated with illegal gambling.
These combined efforts highlight the commitment of Philippine authorities to uphold the law and ensure that gaming activities align with national regulations and public welfare.
