Pakistan launched military operation against India amid tensions

Pakistan launched military operation against India early Saturday, targeting several key bases, including a missile storage site in northern India. This move escalates the worst fighting between the two neighbors in nearly 30 years.

The Pakistani offensive followed claims that India fired missiles at three Pakistani air bases, including one near Islamabad. Most of these missiles were intercepted by Pakistan’s air defenses.

Pakistan launched military operation against India: Key targets hit

The two countries have been locked in conflict over Kashmir, with clashes intensifying since Wednesday. This escalation began after India struck inside Pakistan, targeting what it described as militant camps. Pakistan immediately promised retaliation.

According to the Pakistani military, the BrahMos missile storage site in the Beas area was destroyed. Other targets included the Pathankot Airfield in Punjab state and the Udhampur Air Force Station in Indian Kashmir.

India’s defense and foreign ministries have yet to comment publicly, but a military briefing was expected. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s information minister announced the operation was named “Operation Bunyanun Marsoos,” a term from the Quran meaning a solid and united structure.

Explosions reported as Pakistan launched military operation against India

Witnesses reported hearing explosions in India’s Srinagar and Jammu, accompanied by sirens. Pakistani military spokesman Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said India launched air-to-surface missiles targeting Nur Khan, Mureed, and Shorkot air bases, with Nur Khan located near Islamabad.

Only a few missiles penetrated Pakistan’s air defenses, and initial assessments showed no damage to air assets.

Background of the conflict and recent developments

India stated its initial strikes on Wednesday were retaliation for a deadly attack on Hindu tourists in Kashmir last month, which Pakistan denies involvement in. Since then, both sides have exchanged fire, including drone and missile incursions into each other’s airspace.

Most recent fighting occurred in Indian Kashmir and nearby states, where India reportedly shot down Pakistani drones. Explosions were also heard in Lahore and Peshawar, raising fears the conflict could spread.

Casualty estimates from both sides indicate at least 48 killed since Wednesday, though these numbers have yet to be independently verified.
