Highlights from Previous Palarong Pambansa and Official Opening Ceremony
Last year’s tournament in Cebu City saw hometown athlete Asia Paraase claim the first gold medal in the 3,000-meter race at the local athletics center, which had its share of controversy. This year, participants from 18 regions and two special delegations have gathered to compete in numerous disciplines across Ilocos Norte.
The week-long scholastic meet was officially inaugurated last Saturday evening by the country’s president alongside top government officials, including the education secretary and the Philippine Sports Commission chairman. Thousands of athletes and supporters witnessed the festive opening ceremony that set the stage for a spirited sports festival.
