Parañaque City Advances Earthquake Drill for Disaster Preparedness
The Parañaque city government recently carried out a series of disaster preparedness activities focused on earthquake readiness. These efforts highlight the city’s dedication to enhancing workplace safety and building disaster-resilient communities. The earthquake drill for disaster preparedness was spearheaded by the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in collaboration with a private company, Handling Innovation Inc., on May 19.
The program was carefully planned by the Capacity Building and Training Services and Operations Section, working closely with the DRRMO’s private sector partner. Its primary goal was to provide employees with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond swiftly and correctly during seismic events.
Training Employees on Earthquake Safety Techniques
During the orientation, participants received detailed information about earthquake hazards and the importance of early preparedness. They were also instructed on how to properly perform the “duck, cover, and hold” method, a critical safety procedure during tremors. Furthermore, the training emphasized how to identify safe zones within the workplace, follow evacuation routes, and adhere to protocols after an earthquake.
Following the briefing, a hands-on drill was conducted to test the company’s emergency response plan. Employees actively engaged in evacuation exercises, underwent accountability checks, and gathered at designated safe points for headcounts and feedback sessions.
Community Impact and Collaboration for Disaster Resilience
Officials noted that this earthquake drill for disaster preparedness not only reflects the company’s commitment to employee safety but also supports broader community initiatives aimed at strengthening disaster resilience. Local experts stress that partnerships between public offices and private organizations are vital to fostering a culture of readiness in both workplaces and neighborhoods.
This collaborative approach ensures that more Filipinos are equipped to face natural disasters confidently, ultimately saving lives and reducing damage. The city continues to promote these drills and training programs as part of its ongoing disaster risk reduction efforts.
