Flooding Hits Pasay City Road Due to Southwest Monsoon
Pasay City experienced significant flooding on a key road Saturday afternoon as heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon swept through the area. The flooding affected the northbound service road at the busy intersection of Roxas Boulevard and Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), officials reported.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), floodwaters reached gutter-deep levels, measuring approximately eight inches as of 1:26 p.m. Despite the flooding, the road remains accessible to all types of vehicles, sources said.
Weather Conditions Worsen Across Metro Manila
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a thunderstorm advisory at 2:25 p.m., noting that Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon are experiencing heavy to intense rain showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds. Community members noted the worsening weather conditions have raised concerns about additional flooding in low-lying areas.
Officials explained that the southwest monsoon, locally called the habagat, combined with the trough of a low-pressure area outside the Philippine area of responsibility, is contributing to the persistent rainfall affecting the region.
Authorities Monitor Flooding and Traffic Conditions
Local leaders confirmed that traffic flow along the flooded road has slowed but remains manageable. MMDA personnel are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local government units to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution when traveling, especially in areas prone to flooding during the habagat season, officials recommended.
Preparing for Continued Southwest Monsoon Impact
With the southwest monsoon expected to persist, emergency response teams are on standby to assist communities that may face severe flooding. Community members are encouraged to secure their properties and follow local advisories to mitigate potential hazards.
