Two Workers Die in Pasay Water Refilling Station Collapse
Two people lost their lives, and three others were injured when the second floor of a water refilling station under renovation suddenly collapsed in Pasay City on May 28. The incident occurred at the Eureka Purified Drinking Water Station along Access Merville Road in Barangay 201.
According to local authorities, the collapse happened around 3:55 p.m. while construction was ongoing. The fatalities were construction workers aged 57 and 63, who were pronounced dead upon arrival at Pasay City General Hospital.
Details on Injured Workers and Rescue Efforts
Three other construction workers sustained injuries during the accident. One of the injured, aged 55, was also taken to Pasay City General Hospital. The other two, aged 28 and 33, were transported to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for treatment. Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that all the victims were involved in the renovation work.
One of the injured workers shared his experience, revealing that he was on the second floor leveling freshly poured concrete and beams. His four co-workers had descended to the ground floor moments before the floor gave way, trapping them under the debris.
Cause of the Collapse
Investigations suggest the collapse was caused by wooden supports failing to hold the heavy weight of the wet cement and sand during the renovation. Experts noted that the temporary structures could not sustain the load, leading to the sudden failure.
Authorities continue to assess the site to prevent similar incidents and ensure construction safety standards are met in the area.
