PDEA Rewards Private Informants with P9.4 Million
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has handed out a total of P9.4 million in cash rewards to 26 private informants. These individuals provided critical tips that significantly aided PDEA operations across the country.
The agency highlighted the vital role of private informants in the fight against illegal drugs. Eight informants received their rewards at PDEA’s central office in Quezon City, while 18 others were honored at various regional offices under the agency’s Operation Private Eye. Two informants earned the highest payout, receiving P2 million each for their valuable contributions.
Major Drug Seizures Linked to Informants’ Tips
Among the rewarded, two informants were instrumental in the seizure of over 119 kilograms of suspected shabu in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, last March 21. This operation also led to the arrest of one suspect involved in the drug trade.
Additionally, tips from two other informants triggered a buy-bust operation in Norzagaray, Bulacan, on May 15. The raid resulted in the confiscation of nearly 30 grams of shabu and the arrest of three suspects tied to the illegal drug network.
Informants’ Vital Role in Drug Enforcement Efforts
PDEA Director-General Isagani Nerez praised these private citizens turned informants for their crucial role in intelligence gathering. “These private citizens-turned-informants played crucial roles in the process of gathering intelligence and offered valuable leads to investigations about ongoing drug activities,” he said.
The agency also explained that the cash rewards were carefully approved by a committee composed of key PDEA officers and representatives from the business, academic, and religious sectors. This system ensures transparency and fairness in acknowledging the informants’ efforts.
The success of these operations underscores how citizen cooperation enhances law enforcement’s ability to combat the drug menace effectively. By encouraging and rewarding reliable informants, PDEA strengthens its commitment to dismantling illegal drug syndicates nationwide.
