Philippine and US Troops Conduct Joint Rescue Drill in Zambales
In a show of strong partnership, Philippine and American forces held a combat, search, and rescue (CSAR) drill off the coast of Iba, Zambales as part of this year’s Balikatan Exercise. This joint effort tested their skills in recovering downed aircrew under challenging maritime conditions.
Helicopters From the Sky
The Philippine Air Force deployed Bell 205A and Super Huey helicopters for helocast insertions and hoist extractions. These maneuvers were carried out with tight aerial security, ensuring the mission’s success. Meanwhile, a US C-130J aircraft took the lead in locating the survivor and dropping a survival kit.
US Marine Corps Joined the Rescue
Alongside, a US Marine Corps V-22 Osprey launched a parallel CSAR operation to support the mission. After the recovery, the Philippine Air Force’s specialized aeromedical team simulated in-flight treatment before handing over the patient to ground medical teams at Clark Air Base, Pampanga.
Lesson in Readiness
These drills sharpen the readiness of both nations for life-saving missions in hostile settings. The 505th Search and Rescue Group played a crucial role, underscoring their importance in national and allied operations.
Balikatan 2025
Balikatan began on April 21, drawing around 17,000 troops to participate. This year’s exercise includes a full battle drill, highlighting continuous cooperation between the Philippines and the United States.
This annual event further cements the bond and shared commitment of both countries to regional security and disaster response.
