Philippine Army Chief Prioritizes Human Capital Development

New Philippine Army Chief Highlights Human Capital Development

MANILA, Philippines — Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete, the newly appointed chief of the Philippine Army, has announced that human capital development will be at the forefront of his leadership agenda. The 67th commanding general shared this commitment during the change of command and retirement ceremony held at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

“Under my command, our focus will be centered on human capital development,” Nafarrete declared. “A mission within our vision, to invest not just in what we fight, but in who fights.” This clear emphasis on people aims to strengthen the Army’s foundation by empowering its soldiers.

Clear Career Paths and Well-being for Soldiers

During his tenure, Nafarrete pledged to ensure that Army personnel have transparent career advancement opportunities. He vowed to recognize their skills and provide access to further education and growth, allowing soldiers to build rewarding military careers.

Additionally, the new chief promised to safeguard the physical and mental health of troops, along with their financial security. He stressed that these efforts are integral to the Army’s mission rather than separate goals.

Strengthening the Army Amid Modern Challenges

Recognizing the evolving nature of warfare, Nafarrete pointed out that modern threats include cyber attacks, electronic warfare, economic sabotage, and geopolitical tensions. He said, “Our response cannot only be the procurement of new systems or advanced weaponry.” Instead, the Army must build resilience, intelligence, and strength through its people — the most valuable asset.

Leadership and Legacy

Nafarrete took over from Lieutenant General Roy Galido, who was honored with the Presidential Legion of Honor Award upon retirement. Before becoming the Army chief, Nafarrete led the Western Mindanao Command, responsible for counterterrorism and insurgency efforts across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Bangsamoro region.

According to military spokespersons, Nafarrete’s wealth of experience and leadership will help the Army advance operational readiness, modernization, and uphold core values such as honor, patriotism, and duty in service to the Filipino people.

“The Department expresses its full confidence in his ability to lead the Philippine Army with honor, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to duty,” local sources noted.
