Philippine Coast Guard Meets European Union Delegation
A delegation from the European Union (EU) met with officials of the Philippine Coast Guard at their national headquarters in Manila’s Port Area on Tuesday. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and exploring new opportunities for collaboration between the two entities.
Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, the commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard, warmly welcomed the EU delegation. Leading the visitors was Mariomassimo Santoro, head of the EU delegation to the Philippines, accompanied by Frederic Grillet, the first secretary and political officer.
Strengthening Maritime Cooperation
During the discussion, both parties emphasized the importance of maritime cooperation. The meeting served as a platform to deepen strategic ties and explore fresh avenues for collaboration. The Philippine Coast Guard highlighted how their partnership with the European Union has been active since 2023.
“The visit strengthened maritime cooperation and explored new avenues for deeper and more strategic collaboration between the Philippines and the European Union,” the Coast Guard stated. The growing partnership between the Philippines and the European Union has gained recognition at the highest levels. President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. acknowledged the three years of increasing connection between the two, reinforcing the commitment to continue this progress.
