Philippine Coast Guard Joins Japan Coast Guard Exercise
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recently witnessed a ship boarding exercise conducted by the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) in Kagoshima, Japan. This small board operation and exercise took place on June 13 aboard the JCG patrol ship PL 69 Koshika.
The small board operation and exercise is a vital maritime activity designed to sharpen coast guards’ skills in maneuvering vessels, executing boarding procedures, and enforcing maritime laws. It emphasizes training in tactical operations, coordination, and safety protocols while using small, fast boats to boost operational readiness and foster inter-agency cooperation.
PCG Lieutenant Romanito Mozo expressed gratitude to the JCG for sharing valuable knowledge and skills in small boat operations, which he believes will significantly enhance the effectiveness of PCG missions.
Trilateral Exercise Strengthens International Cooperation
To further strengthen collaboration, the PCG deployed the BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701) to Kagoshima for a trilateral exercise involving the JCG and the United States Coast Guard (USCG). This week-long event is scheduled to start on June 16 and will conclude on June 20.
This marks the second trilateral exercise among these three coast guards. The first was held in Mariveles, Bataan, in June 2023, proving to be a valuable platform for sharing expertise and improving joint operations.
These exercises not only improve tactical skills but also build trust and understanding among participating nations. They ensure that coast guards are better prepared to respond to maritime challenges collaboratively and effectively.
