Coast Guard Rescues Four Norwegian Nationals
The Philippine Coast Guard successfully rescued four Norwegian nationals after their yacht drifted off the coast of Catanduanes on Saturday. The incident involved the vessel named SY Nora Simrad, which was found adrift near Cabugao Bay in Virac municipality.
The rescue operation began when the Coast Guard Station in Catanduanes received a distress call. Efforts to establish radio contact with the vessel were made but initially went unanswered. To locate the yacht, the Coast Guard District Bicol collaborated with the Philippine Air Force’s Tactical Operations Group 5 for aerial surveillance.
Coordination and Rescue Efforts
Once the yacht’s position was confirmed, authorities arranged for the towing of the drifting vessel. From Legazpi Port, the tugboat M/T Iriga was dispatched along with a Deployable Response Team. This team included personnel from various units: the Special Operations Unit Bicol, Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol, Coast Guard Medical Station Bicol, Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-unit Bicol, and the Civil Relations Group Bicol.
The team’s mission was to provide assistance in addition to towing the yacht safely to Catanduanes port. Upon arrival, the four crew members were given medical evaluations by the Coast Guard Medical Station Bicol and were declared in good health.
