Philippine General Hospital Emergency Room Overwhelmed
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has announced that its emergency room has exceeded capacity due to a surge in patient arrivals. Officials are urging the public to seek medical care at other hospitals to ease the overwhelming demand.
“We want to inform you that our emergency room has exceeded its capacity due to the high number of patients,” PGH stated. The hospital’s emergency room typically handles around 70 patients, but the recent influx has pushed it beyond this limit.
PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi emphasized, “For now, we encourage you to find other hospitals that can provide immediate medical attention.” Despite this, the hospital will continue to accept patients in critical condition.
Alternative Hospitals Ready to Accommodate Patients
The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that 20 DOH and government-owned or controlled corporation (GOCC) hospitals in the National Capital Region are prepared to admit patients. DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, who formerly led PGH’s Department of Emergency Medical Services, advised, “We ask hospitals, clinics, ambulances, and doctors to avoid bringing new patients to UP-PGH and instead refer them to DOH hospitals for now.”
Hospitals Available by Location
Patients can turn to the following hospitals for care:
