Philippine India Bilateral Agreements Boost Strategic Partnership

President Marcos Returns After Philippine India Bilateral Agreements

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has returned to Manila following a significant five-day state visit to India. The plane carrying the president and his delegation touched down at Villamor Air Base at 8:06 p.m., marking the successful conclusion of the trip highlighted by Philippine India bilateral agreements.

During his visit, the Philippines secured 13 bilateral and 18 business agreements with India, signaling a deepening of ties between the two nations. Notably, the infrastructure giant GMR Group showed strong interest in joining the Philippines’ Build Better More program, particularly in airport and energy sectors, including the Sangley Airport development.

Elevating Relations with Philippine India Bilateral Agreements

On the second day in New Delhi, President Marcos and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly announced the elevation of their countries’ relationship to a strategic partnership. This new status places India alongside other key Philippine partners such as Japan, Australia, South Korea, and Vietnam.

President Marcos also emphasized the importance of a Philippine-India Preferential Trade Agreement. He described this proposed pact as a “strategic platform” that would leverage the strengths of both countries, boosting their economic collaboration further.

Positive Diplomatic Engagements

In a separate bilateral meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Marcos reflected on his visit, calling it “one of the most productive and constructive visits” he has experienced. Local sources noted the optimism surrounding the prospect of closer cooperation between the Philippines and India, especially in infrastructure and trade sectors.

These Philippine India bilateral agreements mark a pivotal step in strengthening international ties and advancing mutual growth. The Build Better More program stands to benefit significantly from Indian investments, particularly with GMR Group’s interest in key infrastructure projects.
