Philippine Navy Awaits DOJ Request for Missing Sabungeros Search
The Philippine Navy has yet to receive any official request from the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding the planned verification of information about 34 missing sabungeros, or cockfighting enthusiasts, whose remains are reportedly dumped in Taal Lake, Batangas. Navy officials remain on standby, ready to support the investigation if called upon.
Navy spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos shared this update during a recent press briefing. He said, “So far we haven’t received any formal request coming from the Department of Justice, but as I’ve mentioned in several interviews, the Philippine Navy is always ready to assist all other government agencies.”
DOJ Eyes Technical Diver Assistance
Earlier, the DOJ expressed intentions to seek help from technical divers from both the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to aid in the search operations. However, the Navy’s readiness awaits formal coordination to deploy its divers for the mission.
Details Emerge on Missing Sabungeros Case
The case gained new developments when “Alias Totoy,” one of six security guards implicated in the abduction of some sabungeros, disclosed the alleged location of the victims’ remains. According to him, tie wires were used to strangle the missing individuals.
Authorities confirmed that at least 34 cockfighting enthusiasts vanished in 2021 under suspicious circumstances. Investigations continue as law enforcement agencies try to uncover the full extent of the incident.
The Philippine Navy remains vigilant and prepared to assist in the search and recovery efforts once a formal request is submitted by the DOJ.
