PSA Promotes Digital National ID for Secure Transactions
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has urged all Filipinos to download and utilize their Digital National ID as part of the government’s initiative to provide more accessible and secure services. The Digital National ID offers a convenient way for citizens to prove their identity across a broad range of public and private transactions.
This official electronic version of the PhilSys ID can be accessed through the eGovPH app or the national ID website. Community members reported that the Digital National ID is widely accepted by banks, remittance centers, and other institutions regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), provided it is verified via the PhilSys National ID system.
Convenience and Security in One Digital ID
Officials highlighted the ease of accessing the Digital National ID. PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, emphasized, “For everyone who has successfully registered, your National ID is just a few taps away. We encourage you to immediately access your Digital National ID, a reliable and secure valid ID that can be conveniently presented in transactions through your smartphone.”
Local leaders reminded the public that printing the digital ID on paper or plastic cards is strictly prohibited. Only the PSA is authorized to issue official National ID formats. Unauthorized printing or misuse may result in penalties under Republic Act No. 11055, also known as the PhilSys Act.
Collaboration to Enhance Digital Access
The PSA’s push for the Digital National ID is part of a larger collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). This partnership aims to improve digital accessibility, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and bring essential government services closer to every Filipino.
Sources noted, “Since we first introduced the Digital National ID, we have seen how it empowered more and more Filipinos in transactions, enabling their access to various services. We implore our fellow kababayans who do not have their Digital National ID yet—or previously downloaded a copy—to access it now via the eGovPH app and enjoy the advantages of being a registered person.”
Legal Validity and Data Protection Assured
The PSA assured that the Digital National ID holds the same legal validity as its physical counterpart. Strict data privacy and security protocols protect users’ information, ensuring safe and trustworthy use of the digital ID for all transactions.
Community members expressed confidence in the system’s security measures, encouraging more Filipinos to adopt the Digital National ID for its convenience and reliability.
